Chou Wen-chung
Sounds like money
I had done a few small projects for Format and was brought in to do production on yet another of their projects, a site for the Spiralis Foundation comped by Angelie Zaslavsky. Postscript: I was later assigned primary vendor status as a result of personnel changes at Format and Spiralis.
The Foundation is a charitable organization established by Chou Wen-chung to foster cultural exchange between the United States and the People's Republic of China.
Professor Chou himself is a composer active in writing and teaching since the immediate postwar period, when he first became the protege of late electronic music pioneer Edgard Varèse.
Since the Foundation's work is funded entirely by insitutional grants and contributions, the objective of the project was to wring every last ounce of positive good-will possible out of the available multimedia assets.
Bells and whistles, literally
Over a period of several months photographic and audio assets found their way onto my development server, where they were worked into a comprehensive site discussing - in fine detail - Professor Chou's Tao Te Ching-inspired beliefs about music, culture, education, and philanthropy.
An examination of the production site will reveal the following points of interest:
- SlideshowPro deployment
- QuickTime audio object calls via valid markup
- Inline pagination of scanned print materials
The last of those items is notable for being entirely a product of my own design and production.
