Phoenix Valley Design/Build
A tough row to hoe
When I first encountered Phoenix Valley Design/Build's principal, he evinced a great deal of frustration over his previous experiences with Web development professionals. The cause for his frustration was a lack of follow-through: none of his vendors for earlier projects had fully completed their contracted deliverables, in a couple of cases leaving their work half-finished.
My main challenge in taking on this client was therefore to prove that professionalism is not an afterthought in this industry.
The full smash
Unlike most of my other projects over the past couple of years, I was the client-facing vendor, meaning that I not only needed to deliver a production-ready site and the documentation needed to run it, but also the design documents that would drive the process of getting the site built.
To this end I drew up a design brief, specification, site composite, and type treatment, all exhaustively detailed.
Into production
Like most of my projects, this site utilized a single template with layout controlled via the use of CSS display attributes and scripted control statements.
The client delivers a lot of site photography to his clients, so an inline gallery browser was also called for. The functional result bears a strong resemblance to Lightbox while requiring much less code.
